Lymphatic Drainage (VMLD)
About the Lymphatic System
The lymphatic system has three main roles:
-
to collect and return interstitial fluid, including plasma protein to the blood, and thus help maintain fluid balance
-
to defend the body against disease by producing lymphocytes and antibodies
-
to absorb lipids from the intestine and transport them to the blood
The lymphatic system is extremely important to the health of the body for a number of reasons:
-
it’s an integral part of the body’s defense mechanism
-
it prevents circulation of pathogens
-
it stores and releases lymphocytes to fight infection
-
it maintains fluid balance in the body
-
it supports the digestive system by counteracting
The lymphatic system is comprised of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, the lymph itself as well as specialized lymphoid organs such as the tonsils, thymus, and spleen. Bone marrow can also be considered as contributing to the lymphatic system. The circulation of fluids as lymph starts with the creation of interstitial fluid.
Interstitial fluid is formed by components of blood plasma leaking out at the blood capillary level, surrounding the local cells, providing the means by which useful substances and waste products are exchanged at the tissue level. This fluid moves slowly past the cells through unorganized pathways, sometimes referred to as tissue canals.
The Veltheim Method of Lymphatic Drainage (VMLD)
The Veltheim Method of Lymphatic Drainage is a highly effective approach to lymphatic drainage that produces powerful physical and emotional shifts. It is based on a unique “kinesthetic visualization” technique that defies the traditional Western understanding of how the lymphatic system works and employs tools that balance and support the easy movement of interstitial fluid.
The safe, effective, and remarkably easy VMLD technique is one that supports the lymphatic system from a unique perspective. The lymphatic system is an integral part of the immune system, but its reach extends far beyond immunity, influencing everything from organ function to hormonal levels, energy flow and energy levels to heart and circulatory health, and emotional balance. The VMLD technique provides a powerful way of supporting lymphatic health as a standalone modality or within the context of a BodyTalk session.
The Veltheim Method of Lymphatic Drainage is a distinctive approach to working with congested and stagnant interstitial fluid. By restoring movement and balancing pressure differentials throughout the body, VMLD encourages the movement of accumulated fluid, pathogens, cellular waste, toxins, and even emotions into the lymphatic system to support detoxification, purification, and optimal health.
Performing VMLD assists, on a physical level, in dealing with conditions such as acute swelling around an injury site and chronic edema, as well as removing harmful substances from an area (particularly molecules of emotion, as well as pain inducing chemicals and hormones that are stagnating in breast tissue or around various organs such as the ovaries or the prostate). It is amazing the types of dramatic changes that can be observed just by helping the lymph flow through an area (for example, lumps and cysts can disappear within days!).
A Lymphatic Drainage Treatment
Having a Veltheim Method of Lymphatic Drainage treatment can:
-
Boosts the Immune System
-
Reduces Edema
-
Promotes Relaxation
-
Improves Skin Health
-
Reduces Inflammation
-
Enhances Athletic Performance
-
Reduces Fluid Retention
-
Alleviates Sinus Congestion, Colds and Allergies

This form of lymphatic drainage can be performed directly over clothing. During treatment, the practitioner focuses on three main areas, the abdomen and groin, neck, armpits and breast, creating wave-like movements with their hands to gently sweep fluid through the lymphatic system
